It looks like LTE is not actually the main reason why customer buy phones. A new report by Street Insider reveals that AT&T’s top smartphone charts shows that Apple’s iPhone 4S is still undefeated and sitting at the top –but now, the chart has a new second placer.
According to Canaccord Genuity Technology Analyst Michael Walkley’s “June channel checks,” HTC’s 2-month old (then) One X has outsold the Windows Phone-powered Nokia Lumia 900 last month. The Nokia Lumia 900 is sporting the tag price of $99.99 on contract while the LTE-enabled HTC One X running Android Ice Cream Sandwich is priced at $199.99.
If Walkley’s checks are accurate, it is safe to assume that customers prefer a more expensive Android phone than a cheaper but high-end and attractive Nokia device largely due to Android’s popularity.
Also, the June month checks indirectly suggests that Apple’s iPhone 4S does not need LTE to lure customers. The iPhone 4S is also sporting the tag price of $199.99 for the 16GB model which also requires a contract with the carrier.
The HTC One X is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait CPU, 1GB RAM, ships with Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, boasts a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 display with 720p HD resolution and an 8-megapixel back-facing camera plus a front-facing camera for video chat applications.
Meanwhile, the Nokia Lumia 900 is running Windows Phone, ships with a single-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 4.3-inch display with WVGA resolution or 480 x 800 pixels of resolution.
Both the HTC One X and the Nokia Lumia 900 offer LTE or Long Term Evolution.
